The Hope House is located next door to Sam and Anjuli. It is an 11-month residency program for young adults to 1) Deepen their faith 2) Discover rich community 3) Grow in knowledge of their calling 4) Develop a life of prayer 5) Cultivate a life of true honesty and wisdom. 

This unique program will offer a well rounded experience of the spiritual life through theological training & formation classes, group spiritual direction, individual spiritual direction, retreats, community service, seminars, fellowship, residents will have a radical and life transformational experience. 


Way of the Heart Class — Theological Training & Formation

Residents will attend a weekly class, “Way of the Heart.” This weekly class is designed to offer in depth training in the Christian life. During this course you will be invited into a rigorous examination before God of your own heart and how it has been shaped by your story. It is an experiential, communal, historical and theological journey into the work of God in your life and world. This will be accomplished through in depth reflection on the Christian life, open and vulnerable sharing, and a furthering of the life of prayer, discernment, and compassionate care. Additional requirements include weekly prayer exercises and selected readings. The course will run through the end of May. The last two months will be primarily group direction.

Group Spiritual Direction

Residents will participate in weekly group direction. Group Direction is a confidential group experience where members practice vulnerability, listening skills, and prayer. 

Individual Spiritual Direction

Spiritual direction is an ongoing conversation between two people who are committed to seeking discernment of God’s presence in one's life. Each resident will meet once a month with a trained Spiritual Director. This will provide a place for each individual to receive personal care and attention. 

Retreats

Residents will be required to attend three group retreats and three individual retreats. 

  • Group retreats will be two days in length at the beginning, middle and end of the program (September, February, July)

  • Individual retreats will be scheduled by each resident at a time of their choosing (Fall, Spring Summer). These will be one day (Sunrise-Sunset) silent retreats.

Community Service

Residence will be do a monthly service project as a house (4 hours a month). This service can be at a local church, a para-church ministry, or the local community (pregnancy center, Interfaith, after school program, neighborhood).

Seminars

Once a quarter a special speakers will be brought in to teach on specific areas of interest. (Theology, faith & politics, missions, relationships, etc.)

Fellowship

Weekly meals will be provided and hosted by Sam and Anjuli.

Who: Young Adults (ages 21-29)

When: September (Move in Labor Day Weekend) - July (Last weekend of July)

  • 1 week break for Thanksgiving

  • 2 week break for Christmas

Where: 1060 Pinecrest Ave, Escondido, Ca. 92025

Commitment: Residents should be prepared to commit 5-7 hrs a week as a participant of this program. 

Cost: $1,000 a month per resident

This includes housing (landscaping, gas, trash, electric), a weekly meal, monthly individual spiritual direction, weekly class, weekly group direction, group retreats, quarterly seminars.

We strongly encourage residents to seek out donors to help cover the cost of the program. We realize that finances are a challenge. We will do everything in our power to help you raise money for the course of your journey here. But we ask that you would consider raising $300 a month through your local church, friends and family. Our hope is this won’t just be your journey, but you feel supported by your community through it. (Scholarships are available).
